There is a delicious way to start a small business in Mandaluyong City. Lady Councilor Charisse Abalos has branded it as Kitchen Yummies!
Food businesses thrive in the most vibrant city in the country. From selling edible items in plastic packages, cans, and bottles, to serving hot meals in restaurants and fast food joints, big-time capitalists continue to invest in this industry. But thanks to Councilor Charisse, there is now a chance for aspiring entrepreneurs from the grassroots to put up their own business.
 It all started from the occasional food fair ala “banchetto” style in an open parking area within the City Hall of Mandaluyong. Taking off from its meaning – ceremonial dinner party for many people – this casual banquet set up by several vendors catered to various tastes of food enthusiasts. It had been running for a good number of years when Councilor Abalos saw its delectable potential.
On November 2013, the Lady Councilor adopted this food fiesta idea. But she gave it a new twist. Instead of just a select few selling their steaming-and-ready-to-eat meals, she thought of making this business opportunity available to a larger sector of the community. But this was conceived to be exclusive only to legitimate Mandaluyong micro-investors. With that goal in mind, the indigent residents who wish to invest in food catering business would surely benefit from this income-generating project.
Currently, Kitchen Yummies is ongoing as a monthly affair. With the participation of a number of local businessmen lining up their food stalls, they offer various tasty foodstuffs ranging from all-time favorite meals to mouth-watering street chows. This happens for two weeks per month, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PMat the PNP open parking area. This venture falls under the City’s Livelihood Entrepreneurship Advancement Program. When asked about its primary purpose, Councilor Charisse cheerfully responded, “to encourage and strengthen the entrepreneurial drives of the marginalized sector by means of providing them an avenue where they can showcase their food-related products.”
 With just a minute capital and a big dream, the common people from Mandaluyong can now taste their humble success.
